Named after the renowned Roman general Julius Caesar, July was previously known as Quintilis (Latin for fifth) in the ancient Roman calendar. It became the seventh month to honor Caesar, who significantly shaped the transition from the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire.
That’s enough to stretch across the country from Washington D.C. to Los Angeles more than five times. So, it’s safe to say that hot dogs are a quintessential part of Independence Day celebrations.
